The embarrassing part of this episode is that I didn't think to come back in the daytime to look for my car. Three months later, a neighbor finally called EPD, and said my car had been parked on their street for months. Finally, EPD ran my plates and "discovered" my lost car. Was I at fault? Absolutely. But I can't help but wonder how a car reported as stolen, less than 2 blocks from the front door of the Edgewater Police Dept., was not discovered by the police any sooner.
Although somewhat friendly, Edgewater Police have a lot to be desired in actual police work. I "lost" a car less than 2 blocks from the police station. I didn't know the area, and it was dark. It was about 8 p.m. and when I came out to find my car, I walked the blocks around the police station, and had a friend drive me around. One of the officers drove around looking for it, to now avail. I thought he would want me along to identify the car, but no offer was made. This was late in the evening in February, and they would not let come into the station; I had to wait for the majority of the time out on the sidewalk. The doors were locked to the Station, and I guess they were "closed" even though there were several staff members and officers present in the building.
I was given a notice to go in for fingerprints and a photo. I have scheduled an appointment twice because it's by appointment ONLY. Every time i come in the front desk lady says the officers just got called out to a scene. I have waited an hour and she says i will have to reschedule AGAIN... What's the point of an appointment then? Also, i told her i would wait longer because i really need this done and she says : Do you have the rest of the day off? My reaction was why would i need the whole day off when it's by appointment? I guess not enough staff. Either way it's ridiculous. Heads up for this teeny tiny police department.
Just be aware that any crime reports to the EPD will get minimal attention. The Edgewater Police Department is not aggressive in solving cases AT ALL.
In addition, all of the paperwork needed by insurance, etc., the EPD did not send after several requests. I finally had to ask them to send the various papers to me electronically, and then I sent the paperwork on to the insurance company, etc.
Collecting the money, but not doing the job. We have more stop sign runners and blowing red lights then ever and no police. More speeders than ever and no police. More daytime crime and no police. Sure hope the night time dui are up because they are invisible during the day.
They are very slow to help. For a small station they can't seem to answer their phone nor call back I've been waiting for almost 2 weeks now for a back ground check which only takes maybe 15 min to run and I've still not heard back from anyone. What's the problem edgewater police department
